How LockCar works, from booking your fitting to driving off every morning
No jargon, no engineering diagrams. Here is exactly what happens from the day you book your installation to how LockCar fits into a normal day of driving.
Step 1: booking your installation
You reach out over WhatsApp or by phone with your vehicle’s make, model and location. We confirm which LockCar device suits your vehicle and give you an installation quote, typically from £150 depending on the vehicle and your area.
Step 2: professional fitting at your location
A professional installer fits the LockCar device to your vehicle’s start circuit, choosing a concealed, vehicle-specific location. This is not a DIY job, correct placement is part of what makes the relay break hard to find and hard to bypass.
At the end of the fitting, you receive a full insurance certificate documenting the security measures installed, which you can pass on to your insurer.

Step 3: pairing your phone and proximity tag
Your installer helps you download the LockCar app, create your account, and pair it to your device along with your proximity tag. This pairing is what authorises the relay to close and let your engine start. From this point on, your phone and tag are what your car recognises.
Simple Setup
Pairing takes a few minutes as part of the installation appointment, guided by your installer.
Encrypted Connection
The connection between your phone, tag and device is encrypted, so only your paired devices can authorise the vehicle.
Multiple Users
If more than one person drives the vehicle, ask your installer about pairing additional phones or tags.
Step 4: everyday driving, once it is set up
With your phone or proximity tag nearby, the relay closes automatically and your car starts exactly as it always has. There is no extra button to press and no delay you would notice.
If you have One Plus or Duo RH Plus, open the app any time to check the vehicle’s status, review recent movement alerts, or check the live camera feed.
If the vehicle is ever moved without your phone or tag present, you get an alert within seconds, so you can check the camera feed and decide how to respond.
What if your phone battery dies or you forget it at home
Your proximity tag works independently of your phone, so a flat battery or a forgotten phone does not leave you stranded. Speak to your installer about the backup access options available for your specific setup, so you always know your fallback before you need it.
Frequently asked questions
How long does installation take?
This varies by vehicle. Your installer will confirm an estimated time when you book, along with the exact price for your make and model.
Do I need mobile signal for the relay immobiliser to work?
No. The relay break and proximity tag authorisation work independently of mobile signal. Only the GPS and camera features on One Plus and Duo RH Plus rely on a 4G connection.
Can I get a second phone or tag paired for another driver?
Ask your installer about pairing additional phones or tags for other regular drivers of the vehicle.
What happens to the certificate if I sell the car?
Speak to your installer about transferring or reissuing documentation when a LockCar-equipped vehicle changes owner.
