A classic Citroën 2CV, now protected by LockCAR CAN-IMMO
We fitted our LockCAR CAN-IMMO immobiliser to a classic Citroën 2CV. The engine won’t start without the owner’s PIN or paired device, and nothing on show tells a thief it’s there. It’s peace of mind for a car you can’t replace.

How LockCAR CAN-IMMO protects the 2CV
The 2CV left the factory without an immobiliser. CAN-IMMO adds one, without changing how the car looks.
Fitted out of sight
An approved installer fits the module in a hidden, car-specific spot. There’s no keypad, no LED and nothing on the dashboard.
Blocked by default
The engine stays blocked until the owner proves it’s them. A copied or spare key on its own won’t start it.
Disarm and drive
The owner enters their PIN, or has their paired device with them, and the 2CV starts as normal.
Does a classic Citroën 2CV need an immobiliser?
Yes. The 2CV was built from 1948 to 1990, long before immobilisers became compulsory on new cars sold in the UK in October 1998, so it left the factory without one. CAN-IMMO adds that missing layer. Read the LockCAR CAN-IMMO guide.
What it stops
- Starting the engine without the owner’s PIN or paired device
- Driving away with a copied or spare key
- A thief finding it: no keypad, no LEDs, nothing on show
- Knocks, tilting and the car being moved going unnoticed, thanks to the shock sensor
What it doesn’t do
- Stop the car being lifted onto a truck
- Track the car: it isn’t a GPS tracker
- Stop a break-in through the soft-top or a window
- Replace a garage, a cover or classic car insurance
What CAN-IMMO adds to a classic
- PIN to start
- The engine stays blocked until the right code is entered, even with the real key.
- Hands-free option
- Pair a Bluetooth TAG, smartwatch, fitness band or smart ring. The PIN stays as a backup.
- Hidden fitting
- No keypad, no LEDs and no visible indicator, in a concealed, car-specific location.
- Shock sensor
- Notices impacts, tilting and unauthorised movement.
- Service mode
- Lets a mechanic or valet move the car without your PIN. Switch it off afterwards.
- No subscription
- Core protection needs no monthly fee. Firmware updates arrive through the app.

Picture 2028: the new 2CV
Citroën showed an electric 2CV concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, and expects the production car by 2028, at around €15,000.
So picture 2028: a new 2CV owner asks us to protect theirs the way we protected the classic. A connected car brings modern threats, from relay attacks to key programming through the diagnostic port. Our rule stays the same: no PIN, no start. We’ll confirm compatibility once the production car is on sale.

Looking after a protected classic
- Keep your PIN privateChoose a sequence you’ll remember. A forgotten PIN can’t be reset over the phone; it’s reset in person once ownership is confirmed.
- Use service mode at the garageSwitch it on for the mechanic or valet, and off again when you collect the car.
- Tell your insurerLet them know an immobiliser is fitted, so your policy reflects how the car is protected.
- Park smartA garage, a cover or a well-lit spot still makes a classic a harder target.
Questions about immobilisers for classic cars
Can you fit an immobiliser to a classic Citroën 2CV?
Yes. We have fitted LockCAR CAN-IMMO to a classic Citroën 2CV. Every classic is checked individually first, because older cars are wired differently from modern ones.
Did the Citroën 2CV have a factory immobiliser?
No. The 2CV was built from 1948 to 1990, and immobilisers only became compulsory on new cars sold in the UK from 1 October 1998.
Can you see the immobiliser once it is fitted?
No. LockCAR CAN-IMMO has no keypad, no LEDs and no visible indicator, and it is fitted in a hidden, car-specific spot.
What happens if the owner forgets the PIN?
A forgotten PIN can't be recovered over the phone. It is reset in person once ownership of the car is confirmed.
Can a mechanic still move the car?
Yes. Service mode, set in the app, lets a mechanic or valet move the car without your PIN. Switch it off again when you collect the car.
Will LockCAR CAN-IMMO fit the new electric Citroën 2CV?
Citroën plans the production car for 2028, so it isn't on sale yet. We will confirm compatibility once it is; LockCAR CAN-IMMO already works with CAN, LIN and ADC bus vehicles.
