How 4G vehicle tracking works from abroad

A 4G GPS tracker uses cellular networks (the same as your mobile phone) to transmit location data to a secure server. You access this data via a mobile app or web portal. As long as you have an internet connection — hotel Wi-Fi, roaming data, or local SIM — you can see your vehicle’s real-time location on a map. LockCar One Plus uses global 4G bands, so tracking works even if your vehicle is moved across Europe. The system also includes a backup battery, so tracking continues even if the thief disconnects the main vehicle battery.

A standard AirTag or Bluetooth tracker is NOT suitable for holiday tracking. Bluetooth range is only ~30 metres, and AirTags alert nearby iPhones (including a thief’s phone) to their presence. A hardwired 4G tracker is invisible and globally trackable.

Remote immobilisation while you’re away

Tracking alone tells you where your stolen car is. Remote immobilisation stops it from being driven further. LockCar One Plus includes a relay-based immobiliser that cuts the starter or fuel pump circuit. If you receive a theft alert, you can send a remote immobilisation command from the app. The next time the thief stops the engine (or tries to restart), the immobiliser engages and the car cannot be driven. This dramatically increases recovery chances and reduces damage. Note: for safety, remote immobilisation only activates when vehicle speed is below a set threshold (typically 10mph).

What happens if the thief removes the tracker?
