The ultimate security guide for Range Rover and Land Rover owners
Land Rover models are stolen at 32 per 1,000 registered vehicles in the UK’s highest-risk regions. Understanding why, what the thieves use, and how LockCar’s relay immobiliser provides the physical defence that no other system can, is the starting point for protecting the UK’s most targeted vehicle brand.
Why Land Rover is the UK’s most targeted vehicle brand
Land Rover models including Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, and Sport variants are stolen at a rate significantly higher than any other mainstream UK brand. West Midlands Police data for 2024 recorded 32 thefts per 1,000 registered Land Rovers in the region. The reasons are straightforward: exceptionally high values, strong parts demand in domestic and export markets, and passive keyless entry across the entire range.
The Range Rover L460, Range Rover Sport L461, and Defender L663 represent three of the UK’s most desirable theft targets. A current Range Rover Autobiography in SV specification can represent £150,000 to £200,000 of value. In parts, a single vehicle can yield £30,000 to £50,000 to an organised chop shop. Export channels to Gulf states, West Africa, and Eastern Europe pay premium values for complete vehicles.
Organised crime groups targeting Land Rover and Range Rover models operate with detailed intelligence about which postcodes have the highest density of target vehicles, which specific models carry the most value, and what security measures are present. Casual deterrents have no effect on these operations. Only a physical security system they cannot defeat with the tools they carry is effective.
LockCar is specifically designed and tested for Land Rover and Range Rover platforms. Installation follows Land Rover-specific procedures and does not interact with Pivi Pro, InControl Remote, or any Land Rover software system. LockCar is the most popular aftermarket security upgrade among Land Rover owners who have researched their options thoroughly.

Full compatibility across all Land Rover and Range Rover platforms
LockCar installation is compatible with every current and recent Land Rover model including the Range Rover L460 and L461, Defender L663 in 90, 110, and 130 forms, Discovery 5 L462, Discovery Sport L550, and all older Range Rover and Freelander variants. Each platform has specific installation procedures developed by AZFO engineers.
Range Rover L460 and L461 Sport
Current-generation flagship models with Pivi Pro and InControl Remote. LockCar installation does not affect any connected car functionality. Proximity tag and app authentication work alongside factory remote start.
Defender L663
The most popular current Land Rover model and a rapidly rising theft target since its 2020 introduction. LockCar provides the relay break that the Defender’s Pivi Pro system cannot deliver on its own.
Discovery 5 and Discovery Sport
Family SUV platforms with keyless entry that face similar relay attack risk to the premium Range Rover range. Full LockCar compatibility across all Discovery variants.

Beyond the relay break the complete Land Rover security strategy
The relay immobiliser is the essential foundation of any Land Rover security system. It addresses the primary attack method with a physical countermeasure that cannot be defeated electronically. For most Land Rover owners in standard-risk areas, a LockCar IC3ST or LockCar One Plus provides the level of protection that makes their vehicle significantly harder to steal than any unprotected equivalent.
For Land Rover owners in the highest-risk areas, particularly B, CV, and WV postcodes in the West Midlands where organised theft operations are most active, a layered security approach provides the strongest protection. LockCar One Plus provides relay prevention combined with 4G GPS tracking that enables recovery if tow-away theft occurs. Cat 5 tracking from a specialist Land Rover insurer’s recommended provider adds monitoring centre and police liaison capability.
Overnight parking habits matter significantly. Vehicles parked in locked garages have a much lower theft rate than those parked on open driveways. If garage parking is not available, the combination of LockCar relay immobiliser, a high-security steering lock for visible deterrence, and Faraday pouches for key storage provides meaningful layered protection at home.

LockCar has been installed in more Land Rover and Range Rover models than any other vehicle type in its service history. The installation procedures, product recommendations, and protection approach are proven across thousands of real-world UK installations on these specific platforms.

Frequently asked questions
Will LockCar affect my Land Rover warranty or InControl Remote?
No. LockCar installation follows Land Rover-specific wiring procedures and does not alter any factory electronics, software, or connected car functions. InControl Remote continues to operate normally. For the InControl Remote start function, LockCar can be configured so that the proximity tag satisfies the LockCar authentication during authorised remote start events.
My Land Rover has been stolen before. Is it worth fitting LockCar now?
Yes, for two reasons. First, a recovered stolen Land Rover is frequently targeted again. Second, insurance companies often require additional security on replacement vehicles for owners with a previous theft claim. LockCar’s certificate satisfies most insurer requirements.
Does LockCar work alongside Autowatch Ghost?
Yes. LockCar and Ghost are complementary systems. Ghost operates at the CAN bus level. LockCar operates at the physical relay level, outside the CAN bus. Combined, they provide defence in depth addressing relay attack, CAN bus injection, and other advanced attack methods simultaneously.
What is the most effective Land Rover security configuration?
For most UK Land Rover owners: LockCar One Plus for prevention, GPS recovery, and live camera combined, plus a Cat 5 tracker from a Land Rover insurer’s recommended provider for monitoring centre support. LockCar handles prevention and initial recovery. Cat 5 handles monitoring centre response.
