However, fitting a tracker or immobiliser to an EV requires different considerations than a petrol or diesel car — including 12V battery capacity, high-voltage safety, and warranty compatibility. EV-specific tracker considerations

EVs have two electrical systems: a high-voltage traction battery (400V-800V) for driving, and a standard 12V auxiliary battery for electronics. Trackers and immobilisers connect only to the 12V system — never to high-voltage components. However, EV 12V batteries are typically smaller than those in ICE vehicles, so low-power devices and voltage monitoring are essential. LockCar systems draw minimal current (under 5mA in standby) and include programmable low-voltage cut-off to preserve 12V battery health.

Will a tracker drain my EV’s 12V battery?

LockCar devices have very low standby power consumption (under 5mA) and include voltage monitoring. If the 12V battery drops below a set level, the system shuts down to preserve starting power.

Can an immobiliser be fitted to a Tesla?

Yes. LockCar immobilisers are compatible with Tesla Model 3, Y, S, and X. We install physical relay cuts that do not interfere with Tesla’s software or warranty.
