Lexus RX and NX theft: protect your hybrid SUV
LockCAR makes immobilisers in the UK. The Lexus NX was the eighth most stolen car in the country in 2025, and the RX is just as wanted. Here is how they are taken, and how a hidden immobiliser keeps a Lexus hybrid from driving away.

How often Lexus cars are stolen
The figures come from the DVLA.
DVLA figures for 2025 published by What Car? show 2,031 Lexus cars reported stolen, the tenth highest of any make, and the NX alone at 951, the eighth most stolen model in the UK. Toyota, which shares much of its technology with Lexus, was third among all makes with 4,518 cars, led by the RAV4 and the C-HR.
| Make or model | Cars stolen in 2025 | UK rank |
|---|---|---|
| Lexus NX | 951 | 8th model |
| All Lexus models | 2,031 | 10th make |
| Toyota RAV4 | 1,319 | 4th model |
| Toyota C-HR | 967 | 7th model |
Why the RX and NX are targeted
Four reasons thieves keep coming back to them.
- Value whole and in parts
- Recent RX and NX hybrids hold their value, and their parts are in demand.
- Smart key relay
- The signal of the smart key inside your house can be relayed to the car, which opens and starts.
- Shared Toyota technology
- Lexus shares platforms with Toyota, so the same methods used on a RAV4 or a Land Cruiser work on a Lexus too.
- CAN injection
- Some thieves connect to the wiring behind a headlight and send the car the messages a genuine key would send.
Fitted safely on a hybrid
The high-voltage system is never touched.
A Lexus hybrid has a high-voltage system for the drive motors and a normal 12 V system for everything else. LockCAR approved installers work only on the 12 V side and keep clear of the hybrid battery and inverter. The immobiliser blocks the car from getting ready to drive, in hybrid and petrol mode alike, until it gets its own TAG, ring, watch or PIN.
It suits the RX, NX, UX, ES and IS, hybrid or petrol. Check your exact car with the Vehicle CHECK.
Choose how you disarm it
Hands-free or PIN, paid for once.
| Immobiliser | How you disarm it | Hands-free | Kit | Fitted |

| Smartwatch | Wear your smartwatch, no extra fob | Yes | £160 | Ask us |
| PIN code, CAN-IMMO | Enter your sequence on the steering wheel buttons | With optional TAG | £189 | £299 |
