BMW immobiliser Castle Bromwich: stop relay thieves before they reach the M6
LockCAR makes CAN bus immobilisers, 4G dashcams and GPS trackers in Birmingham and fits them through approved installers a few miles from your door. For BMW owners in Castle Bromwich and B36, this page sets out what an immobiliser changes, which option suits your car and how fitting is arranged.
- B36 and nearby covered
- Engine blocked, keyless kept
- Tracker option for motorway risk
What an immobiliser changes for a BMW owner
Before choosing anything, it helps to know exactly where an immobiliser helps and where it does not.
With LockCAR fitted
- A relayed Comfort Access signal opens the doors but cannot start the engine
- A thief cannot tell from outside that the car is protected, so there is nothing to disable first
- A key programmed through the OBD port is useless without your TAG or PIN
- Injected CAN messages do not release the engine
- Nothing on show tells a thief where the module is
- You still unlock and drive the BMW the way you do now
- Your BMW key, iDrive and factory alarm work as before
What it cannot do
- Stop a window being smashed
- Stop a car being lifted onto a recovery truck
- Tell you where the car is, unless you choose a 4G system
Living a few minutes from junction 5 of the M6
The same road links that make Castle Bromwich handy for commuters make it handy for car thieves.
- A motorway on the doorstep
- Junction 5 of the M6 sits right beside Castle Bromwich’s residential streets, so a stolen car can be on the motorway almost at once.
- Fast links in every direction
- From the A452 Chester Road and the A38, the M6, M42 and M5 are all within easy reach, which is why gangs value the area.
- Cars on open drives
- Many BMWs here sit on drives in full view of the road, with the key a few metres away inside the house.
- Cars parked at work all day
- Commuters who leave a BMW near the industrial sites by the motorway give thieves hours without anyone watching.
- Cars on show beside busy roads
- Along the Chester Road and near the Spitfire Island junction, cars parked on the street are seen by thousands of passing drivers, including those looking for targets.
Options and prices for BMWs in B36
So close to the motorway, we suggest the One Plus 4G for higher-value BMWs: it stops the drive-away and alerts you if the car is lifted and moved.
| Option | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Fob (TAG) immobiliser | Hands-free engine block, released by a TAG on your keys | £139 kit, £249 fitted |
| PIN code immobiliser | A sequence you press on the steering wheel, with a TAG as an extra | £189 kit, £299 fitted |
| LockCar One Plus 4G | Everything above, plus a road camera, 4G tracking and alerts if the BMW moves | £499 fitted |
| LockCar Duo RH Plus 4G | Front and cabin cameras, immobiliser and 4G GPS tracker | £699 fitted |
Why not just a tracker? Because a tracker only tells you where the car has gone, and next to a motorway junction a car can be miles away before anyone notices it is missing. The immobiliser keeps the engine off in the first place. The tracker covers the case where the car is lifted onto a truck instead of driven.

Choose the place
An approved installer comes to your drive or workplace, or you visit an installation centre.
Fitted and explained
The module is hidden behind trim and tested, and you are shown how to release the engine with your TAG or PIN. You will need to be there at the end for the handover.
Fittings usually take place on a drive or in a work car park. If your BMW is parked on the street, tell us when you book so the installer can plan a safe place to work.
Habits that help BMW owners near the motorway
- Keep keys away from the front doorA relay device struggles to reach a key in a signal-blocking pouch in a back room, unlike one hanging by the door.
- Ask about Comfort Access settingsAsk a BMW dealer whether the keyless entry on your model can be switched off or restricted, and what you lose if it is.
- Block the car inParking a second car across the drive slows down anyone who gets the BMW running.
- Call 999 if a theft is in progressThen report it straight away, with the registration and any tracker location.
BMW immobiliser Castle Bromwich: your questions
Which BMW models can you fit?
We fit BMWs from the 1 Series to the X7, including M Sport models. Enter your registration in the Vehicle CHECK, or send it to us, to confirm your exact model before you book.
Can I keep using Comfort Access?
Yes. The car still unlocks as it does now, and iDrive and the alarm work as before. The engine is released once the immobiliser recognises your TAG or your PIN.
What if the car is lifted onto a truck?
No immobiliser can stop that. With the One Plus 4G you are alerted the moment the BMW moves and can follow it on the map, so the police get its location straight away.
Do you cover Water Orton and Chelmsley Wood?
Yes. As well as B36, approved installers fit in Water Orton, Castle Vale, Hodge Hill and Chelmsley Wood. If you live just outside these areas, send us your postcode.
How much does a BMW immobiliser cost fitted?
The fob (TAG) version is £249 fitted and the PIN version is £299 fitted. The One Plus 4G, with tracker and dashcam, is £499 fitted. Immobiliser kits start at £139.
Do I pay anything each month?
Not for the immobiliser, which is a single payment. Once it is fitted, there is nothing to renew and nothing to top up.
Can I tell my insurer it is Thatcham approved?
No. Thatcham Security Certification has not finished for LockCAR immobilisers. Describe what is fitted to your BMW and let the insurer say how they treat it.
