Vehicle security for educational establishments
Schools, colleges, and universities that operate their own vehicle fleets face a combination of risks that commercial operators also face, with the additional dimension of duty of care obligations regarding any vehicles used for pupil transport. A stolen school minibus not only represents a capital loss but also disrupts the transport provision that pupils and parents depend on. Replacing a licensed minibus or specialist transport vehicle takes time that directly affects service delivery.
Education fleet vehicles are often parked on school premises overnight and at weekends, in locations that may be accessible to the public despite perimeter fencing. School sites, particularly in urban areas, have experienced vehicle crime despite fencing and CCTV, with relay attacks on newer keyless minibuses occurring in exactly the same way as residential driveway attacks.
The LFM Fleet Monitoring Platform is particularly valuable for education fleet managers who need to monitor vehicle locations during trips, confirm safe return, and maintain records of vehicle usage for insurance, compliance, and duty of care purposes. The platform provides a real-time map of all fleet vehicles plus historical trip data and incident records.
Technical requirements for minibus installation
Minibuses and coaches typically operate on 24V electrical systems, particularly vehicles with eight or more seats built on purpose-built bus chassis. LockCar’s i226 supports both 12V and 24V installations, making it compatible with the full range of school transport vehicles from seven-seat MPVs through to 17-seat minibuses and larger coaches. The 20A relay handles the higher-current starter circuits found on larger diesel engines.
Multi-driver operation is a key requirement for education fleet vehicles, where different staff members may drive the same vehicle on different days. LockCar systems support multiple proximity tags per vehicle, with each authorised driver carrying their own tag. Tags can be added and removed via the app, allowing fleet managers to control access when staff changes occur.
How LockCar stops this threat
LockCar installs a hardwired relay break in the vehicle start circuit. This break is positioned downstream of the factory immobiliser, the OBD port, and the CAN bus. Even if a criminal performs a successful relay attack or CAN bus injection and satisfies the factory security, the engine will not start because the LockCar relay is open. Closing that relay requires a second, independent encrypted authentication that relay equipment cannot replicate. LockCar is designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom and installed by mobile engineers at your home, workplace, or any accessible location.

How long does LockCar installation take?
Installation typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. Our mobile engineer brings all parts and equipment to your location. The system is fully tested before the engineer leaves and you receive installation documentation on the same day.
Will LockCar interfere with my vehicle’s factory electronics?
No. LockCar installation uses vehicle-specific wiring procedures and connects to the start circuit in a way that is invisible to the factory CAN bus, ECU, and infotainment systems. All factory functions continue to operate exactly as before.
Does LockCar cover my area?
LockCar’s mobile service covers the entire UK. Same-day and next-day appointments are available in most areas. WhatsApp or call Victor to confirm availability and book at your preferred location.
