In the immediate aftermath of discovering the damage, check the LockCar app for any parking mode events from the relevant time period. The app will show any motion-triggered recordings during the parked period.
Download the relevant footage to your phone or computer. The footage file includes embedded timestamp and GPS data that confirms the time and location of the incident. Contact your insurer to report the damage and inform them immediately that you have dashcam footage. Most UK insurers have a specific process for handling claims with dashcam evidence that accelerates processing.
If the responsible vehicle’s registration is visible in the footage, report this to police via 101 or your local force’s online dashcam submission portal (Operation Snap in most areas). Can I identify a registration plate from parking mode footage?
Registration plate visibility depends on lighting conditions, the distance at which the striking vehicle passes, and the camera’s field of view. In adequate lighting at distances up to eight to ten metres, registration plates are typically legible on LockCar dashcam footage.
